During my pregnancy I had my parents as my main support person as I was facing becoming a single mom. I heard about the volunteer program in Olds where doulas were accessible so this is how I got paired up with Lennie. Even though it was a last minute introduction, she was marvelous at introducing all the prenatal ideas, giving me tips on how to prepare for going to hospital and when I started contractions.

Once the day arrived she was very helpful with suggesting both chiropractic and massage therapy which I hadn’t even thought about that day. It was my last day before induction, a procedure I was trying to avoid. She was very caring and yet professional at the same time, allowing me space and time as I needed. I really enjoyed her hands on approach, giving me massages and helping with pressure points and instructing my support people to do the same. She had followed me to the hospital. When it came to pushing, she was a crucial part of showing me how to breathe when I wasn’t allowed to push. I’m sure this was one of the main reasons I ended up not having any tears and a wonderful birth experience. She enabled my main support person, my Mom, to step into her role to the best of her ability, and stayed until baby was born and I felt comfortable. I highly recommend her services!

She knew exactly when to offer help and when to sit quietly waiting during the hours of contractions.
Lennie Anderson served as my doula during the birth of my second daughter in May 2010. She was a steady, comforting presence during labour, both at home and in the hospital. I appreciated her suggestions for pain-relief; she knew exactly when to offer help and when to sit quietly waiting during the hours of contractions. Lennie discretely took pictures of this time for us and helped my husband know how to help me. Even though we met her only days before going into labour, Lennie seemed like an old friend during this time. I would heartily recommend her as a doula or labour assistant.

This letter of referral comes to you from a mother of a single mom in Alberta, Canada who experienced the wonderfully skilled doula services of Lennie Anderson. A birth is such an emotional time; and the circumstances under which our daughter gave birth were far from ideal. Lennie’s gracious, kind, encouraging ways were a great comfort at a stressful time. Her professionalism shone through; as did the skills which she administered in the labor room.

I have known Lennie Anderson for more than seven years both personally and as a doula volunteer for Alberta Health Services of which I was employed as the Coordinator of Volunteer Resources at the Sundre and Olds Hospitals and Care Centres. Lennie has been an outstanding doula volunteer, with a keen sense of what comfort measures work best for the labouring woman she is working with. After her training and yet today, she seeks to education herself as a doula through courses, books, professional medical staff, other doulas and experience. She is most compassionate and has a great sense of humour. Lennie is a reassuring doula. We have become good friends over the years and I would recommend her to all couples expecting a child, as I know she is most competent at her work.
